“EU/Japan Innovation Strategy and Cooperation in R&D”
EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation Silver Jubilee Seminar Series
Key words: Innovation, Cooperation with Europe, FP7, HORIZON2020, Capacity building

On Friday, 15 June the J-BILAT Seminar highlighted the opportunities for further EU-Japan cooperation in science, technology and innovation through the presentation of the innovation policies of the EU and Japan as well as case studies of mutual access to programmes, including the 7th Framework Programme (FP7) and beyond (Horizon2020). The event was attended by 50 people and featured speakers from the EU and Japanese Authorities, current and possible projects, a Japanese company and a French researcher.

Background and Objectives

The EU-Japan Centre for Industrial Cooperation, founded 25 years ago, has the promotion of EU-Japan cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) as one of the pillars of activities, in addition to the services to the industry and policy advice. Especially, since January 2010, it has been providing useful information on FP7 through the J-BILAT project.

While “Green Innovation” and “Life Innovation” are promoted in Japan’s New Growth Strategy published in June 2010, innovation appeared as one of the most important keywords in the HORIZON2020, framework that follows FP7. Now, one year since the ratification of the EC-Japan science and technology cooperation agreement, further reinforcement of the EU-Japan cooperation in STI is underway. In this seminar, innovation policies and case studies will be presented to further reinforce the EU-Japan cooperation.
